 Some of the main symptoms of dry eye include: 
  -burning or stinging eyes 
  -a feeling that something is in the eye 
  -a scratchy or sandy feeling 
  -a mucous discharge from the eye 
  -red, painful eyes 
  -watery eyes 
  -episodes of unfocused vision 
  -lowered ability to tolerate sustained reading or working on the computer for long periods of time 
 A variety of medications may contribute to dry eyes including birth control pills, some
blood pressure medicines, antihistamines, antidepressants, and nasal decongestants.
